A calm approach to grooming

We believe good grooming starts with trust.

At Common Ground Canine, grooming isn’t rushed and dogs aren’t treated like numbers on a list. Our groomers take the time to get to know each dog, read their body language and adjust handling as needed throughout the groom.

This approach is especially important for:

  • Nervous or sensitive dogs

  • Puppies new to grooming

  • Dogs who have had difficult grooming experiences in the past

We aim to build confidence over time and make each visit feel predictable and safe.

Arrival and settling in
Dogs arrive and are given time to settle, have a sniff around and feel comfortable before grooming begins.

Bath and blow-dry
We start with a gentle bath using suitable products for your dog’s coat and skin, followed by a calm blow-dry at a pace that suits them.

Grooming and tidy-up
Grooming is carried out with care and patience, including clipping, scissoring and coat tidy-ups as booked. We work with your dog’s comfort levels and take breaks where needed.

Finishing touches and rest time
Nails, ears and final checks are done, followed by quiet rest time before pick-up.

Your dog's comfort comes first

Your dog’s wellbeing always comes before finishing a groom perfectly.

If a dog is feeling overwhelmed, we’ll slow things down, take breaks or adjust the groom where needed. In some cases, we may recommend spreading grooming over multiple visits to help build confidence.

We’ll always communicate openly with you about how your dog is coping and what we recommend moving forward.

Dog Grooming FAQs

Why do grooming times vary between dogs?
Grooming time depends on coat type, coat condition, behaviour and how comfortable your dog is, not just their size.

How is grooming priced?
Our pricing is based on estimated grooming time, using your dog’s size and coat type as a starting point.

Why might my groom cost more than expected?
If a groom takes significantly longer than estimated due to coat condition or extra care needs, an extra care fee may apply.

What is an extra care fee?
An extra care fee covers additional time needed for slow-drying coats, heavy matting or extra breaks to keep dogs comfortable.

Why are prices listed by weight if coat matters more?Weight gives a general guide, but coat density and condition often have a bigger impact on grooming time.

Do thick or double coats take longer to groom?
Yes. Thick or double coats usually take longer to wash and dry, which can extend the appointment time.

Will I be told if extra charges apply?
Absolutely! We believe in clear communication and will talk it through with you if extra time is needed.

Can regular grooming help reduce costs?
Regular grooming and brushing at home can help reduce grooming time and keep coats manageable.

Getting started with dog grooming

We welcome new grooming clients and take the time to get to know each dog properly.

To get started, simply get in touch and tell us a bit about your dog, their coat and any previous grooming experiences.

We’ll help you choose the right service and book a time that works for you.

If you’re unsure what your dog needs, that’s completely fine. We’re always happy to chat and guide you.

Grooming for daycare and motel dogs

Many of our grooming clients are also regular daycare or motel dogs, which allows us to groom dogs we already know well.

For dogs attending daycare or staying overnight:

  • Grooming can be booked alongside daycare or motel stays

  • Dogs are already familiar with our space and team

  • This often makes grooming calmer and more relaxed

We also welcome grooming-only clients and take the same care to help new dogs feel comfortable.
