Dog Motel
Overnight dog care in a calm, home-style environment
Our dog motel provides a safe, comfortable and thoughtfully managed overnight care option for dogs who enjoy being part of a social environment during the day.
We’re not a traditional kennel where dogs are left alone in runs. Instead, dogs staying overnight with us take part in daycare during the day and settle into their own individual sleep pens at night. This helps overnight stays feel familiar, relaxed and low-stress.

A different approach to overnight care
At Common Ground Canine, overnight care is built around routine, familiarity and connection.
Dogs staying with us spend their days socialising, resting and interacting with our team, just like our regular daycare dogs. At night, they have their own dedicated sleep space where they can wind down and rest comfortably.
This approach works best for dogs who enjoy company and benefit from structure, rather than being isolated for long periods.
Arrival and settling in
Dogs arrive and are given time to settle, have a sniff around and feel comfortable in their space.
During the day
Dogs join our supervised daycare program, with time for play, rest and enrichment.
Afternoon and evening
Dogs enjoy their dinner, a post-meal rest, and then some more time for play and toilet breaks before bed.
Bed time
In the evening, dogs settle into their individual sleep pens with familiar routines to help them feel secure..
Who our dog motel is suited for
Our overnight care is best suited to dogs who:
-
Are comfortable in a social environment
-
Enjoy being around other dogs and people
-
Are settled by routine and familiarity
If you’re unsure whether our dog motel is the right fit for your dog, we’re always happy to talk it through.
Not every dog thrives in the same environment, and that’s okay.

Daycare and overnight go hand in hand
All dogs staying overnight with us take part in daycare during the day.
Because our overnight dogs are part of our daycare groups, all motel guests are required to complete a daycare evaluation trial before staying overnight. This helps us make sure the environment is safe, positive and suitable for your dog.
We also strongly recommend ongoing daycare attendance throughout the year. Regular daycare helps dogs stay familiar with our space, routines and team, making overnight stays especially around holidays far less stressful.

At Common Ground Canine, dogs stay in individual indoor sleep pens overnight in line with local council licensing requirements (which require all dogs to be separately secured of an evening).
These sleep areas are used only at night to ensure every dog can rest safely and comfortably.
We have two main indoor accommodation rooms: the Meadow Room, which offers a calm, spacious environment with half-height pens suited to smaller, older, or quieter dogs, and the Valley Room, which features full-height pens for larger dogs or dogs who feel more settled with additional physical boundaries.
All pens are designed with comfort, airflow, and visibility in mind to help dogs feel relaxed and secure.
During the day, dogs participate in supervised daycare, social time, rest breaks, and outdoor play in our yard spaces based on their individual needs and suitability.

Dog Motel FAQs
Is your dog motel like a traditional kennel?
No. Our overnight care is different to a traditional kennel. Dogs staying overnight take part in daycare during the day and sleep in their own individual pens at night, rather than being left alone in runs.
Do overnight dogs need to attend daycare?
Yes. All dogs staying overnight with us participate in daycare during the day. This helps keep them engaged, settled and comfortable during their stay.
Why does my dog need a daycare evaluation before staying overnight?
Because overnight dogs join our daycare groups, all motel guests are required to complete a daycare evaluation trial first. This helps us make sure the environment is safe, positive and suitable for your dog.
Where do dogs sleep at night?
Dogs sleep in their own individual sleep pens at night, with familiar routines to help them settle and rest comfortably.
Is your dog a kennel or a house?
Our dog care space is a renovated house that’s been repurposed for dogs. This home-style environment has multiple air-conditioners, is set on 5 acres, and helps many dogs feel calmer and more relaxed during overnight stays.
Is overnight care suitable for every dog?
Overnight care suits dogs who are comfortable in a social environment and benefit from routine and familiarity. If you’re unsure whether it’s the right fit, we’re always happy to chat and help you decide.
Why do you recommend regular daycare days?
Regular daycare helps dogs stay familiar with our space, routines and team. This makes overnight stays, especially during busy holiday periods, much less stressful for them.
Can I visit or talk things through before booking overnight care for my dog?
Absolutely! If you’d like to meet us or discuss whether overnight care is right for your dog, please email us so that Adrienne (the owner) can get in touch to organise a time.
